Work History

After graduating from the Rutgers School of Management in May of 1997 I began working at Prudential Insurance Company, since renamed Prudential Financial after its Dec. 2001 IPO.   My first position within Prudential was as a Portfolio Accountant in the Private Investment Accounting group.  My main responsibilities were to report on all of Prudential's privately placed foreign investment assets.  I produced various reports detailing assets, cash flows and risk exposure.  I was also responsible for reconciliation of the asset holdings.

After 9 months I was transferred to another group within Private Accounting.  My new responsibilities now focused on analysis of domestic private loans made by the Prudential Capital Group.  In this role I was responsible for forecasting cash inflows to the investment groups to ensure portfolio liquidity.  I was also responsible for contacting borrowers when payment discrepancies arose and to correct these discrepancies using my best judgment.  I created loan amortization schedules for clients, prepared wires for money transfers to internal and external accounts, analyzed deal documents and maintained the recordkeeping system.

During my time in this position I was involved in special projects such as Data cleanup and a new accounting system implementation.  The data cleanup project was an annual project in which certain assets financial positions were corrected, or "cleaned up".  The specific securities cleaned did not have a set payment schedule for principal repayments, and as such there is no way to accurately reflect the amortization of these loans to their par value.  Schedules are created in a spreadsheet, called bond calculators, which outline past payments and roughly estimate future payments.  Macros are then run to find the correct yields on the loans and the corrections are made to the accounting system.  For this project I created a summary sheet that pulled all the relevant information on the holdings from the individual sheets, and centralized the data in one file.

The accounting systems project took place from September 1998 to February 1999.  During this time I was responsible for outlining processes to the project's Business Analysts.  During the dual processing stage of testing, I was responsible for transaction processing in the new system, Pam, as well as the existing system, Prism.  Once this was done I reconciled the processing vouchers from both systems to ensure that the proper information was reflected.  I also worked on several projects during these phases to analyzed certain output reports from Pam.

After approximately a year and a half as a Portfolio Accountant,  I posted internally to a  Business Analyst position within the Retirement Services group.  In this role I was responsible for business modeling, planning and analysis.  I have created various business models, which were used to construct our multi year sales and financial plans.  They were also used to forecast key business metrics.  I have also conducted product analysis, trend analysis as well as analysis actual results vs. plan.  I have also created reports, using PowerPoint, which senior management used during meetings.

The MBA curriculum of Rutgers contains an integrated, two semester course which a small group of students work as consultants for a participating company.  For my project I acted as group leader assigned to consult for a B2B web start up company.  I was fortunate to be involved in several phases of the company's operations.  These functions ranged from marketing analysis, member retention analysis and business development strategies.
